Bio: Emily Seawell is the associate regional editor for Patch sites in northern Pinellas County. Before joining the Patch team, she worked in print and online newsrooms as a multimedia editor and new media strategist. Seawell has a degree in journalism from the University of Florida and has lived in the Tampa Bay area since 2005.

Beliefs
At Patch, we promise always to report the facts as objectively as possible and otherwise adhere to the principles of good journalism. However, we also acknowledge that true impartiality is impossible because human beings have beliefs. So in the spirit of simple honesty, our policy is to encourage our editors to reveal their beliefs to the extent they feel comfortable.
This disclosure is not a license for our editors to inject their beliefs into stories or to dictate coverage according to them. In fact, the intent is the opposite: we hope that the knowledge that our beliefs are on the record will cause us to be ever mindful to write, report and edit in a fair, balanced way. And if you, the user, ever see evidence that we failed in this mission, please let us know.

Politics
How would you describe your political beliefs?
I'm registered without party affiliation, which prevents me from voting in most primary elections, and as a journalist I abstain from much of the political process. When I vote in general elections, I consider candidates on a case-by-case basis. I consider myself a moderate.
Religion
How religious would you consider yourself?
I was raised Presbyterian. I consider myself spiritual, and I have the utmost respect for other religious traditions and those who practice them. I believe tolerance, compassion and honest communication lead to a better community.
