Man Arrested For Hit And Run On Boyette Road

Deputies responding to the scene found debris from a Toyota Corolla, they say.

A woman who ran out of gas along a local road was struck by a vehicle as she tried to cross the street to get to a gas station. The driver who allegedly hit her, left the scene and was later arrested, according to the Hillsborough COunty Sheriff's Office.

Diana Pena, 33, was driving on Boyette Road in the early morning hours on July 4. When her car ran out of gas, she got out of the car and started crossing Boyette Road to get to a gas station. When she was crossing the westbound lanes, Pena was struck by a car. That car failed to stop and Pena, of  Lychee Loop in Riverview, was left laying in the roadway, deputies say. 

A driver in the area spotted Pena in the road and called 911. Pena was taken via helicopter to Tampa General Hospital in serious condition. She is now listed in stable condition.

Early this morning, July 5, deputies say the spotted a vehicle at 9757 Tranquility Lake Circle in Riverview that matched the debris found on Boyette Road.

"The front of the vehicle was covered with a sheet to hide the damage which was consisted to the crash," wrote Cristal Bermudez Nunez, spokesperson for the Sheriff's Office in an email to Patch.

The owner of that car, Mathew Ryan Fox was arrested and charged with Leaving Scene of a Crash with Injury. Fox, 26, was released on $2,000 bond.
