What color palette are you?

Do you like warm colors, cool colors, light or dark colors?  Your lightly greatly affects how color looks in your home.  What kind of lighting do you have?  Natural light makes color appear in their natural form while overhead lights add a different dimension.  Colors can look very different at home as opposed to a paint store.  Buying multiple samples can be frustrating but it is better than buying gallons of paint and hating it once it is on the wall.  When considering a color look at the complimentary colors on the card.  A warmer or lighter shade may be just the one you need depending on your lighting.  My family room looked like I was painting camouflage for a while until I found the right green.  Some had too much yellow and others too much blue for the lighting in my home.  Also,  consider the furnishings in your room.  Opposing colors on the color wheel create a sharp contrast while complementary colors create a warm subtle feel. If you have a fabric in your room you love choose a paint to highlight it.  Use accent pieces to draw colors out of a pattern.  All of these options will add dimension to your space.  In the end, it is only paint and if you hate it, it is an easy fix.  If you are really on the fence consider hiring someone to guide you.  The money spent will be well worth all the time wasted shopping for and contemplating  change.
