John Haughey began his career as a Navy journalist. In the ensuing 30 years, he has been a reporter, features writer, and managing editor for daily newspapers in Wyoming, California, Washington, New York, and Florida; a senior editor for Modern Plastics and Supermarket News, influential global B2B trade publications headquartered in Manhattan; and a writer and editor for Seattle-based Outdoor Empire Publications and ESPNoutdoors.com.

Aside from his responsibilities with New Port Richey Patch, Haughey is the national news correspondent/blogger for Outdoor Life and a contributing columnist/features writer with several online news services and publications.

Since moving to Florida in 2004, Haughey has won numerous Florida Press Club, Florida Association of Newspaper Editors, and Sunshine State awards for local government, environmental, business, and features writing, including the Lucy Morgan Award for In-Depth Reporting. He was a staff contributor to the Charlotte Sun’s Hurricane Charley coverage, which earned a 2005 Pulitzer Prize finalist nomination.

A graduate of the University of Wyoming, Haughey is a New York native. He lives in Holiday.
