County to Take Another Look at Light at FishHawk Ridge Ridge Boulevard

County Commission Al Higginbotham has asked for another study to see if a traffic light is warranted.

A plea by FishHawk Ranch residents for a traffic light at the intersection of FishHawk Boulevard and FishHawk Ridge Drive has attracted the attention of at least one county commissioner. Commissioner Al Higginbotham has asked the Public Works Department to obtain another traffic study of the intersection to see if a traffic signal is warranted. At Higginbotham's request, Mike Williams of the Public Works Department said he directed the community's developer, Newland Communities, to conduct a traffic count at the intersection this month. Williams said his department will evaluate the results and present a status report at a Hillsborough County Commission meeting at the end of March. Plan to Expand FishHawk Sports Complex Gets Residents' Approval

Mark Thornton, director of the county Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department, met with residents last night to discuss the revised plan.

Under a new proposal to expand the FishHawk Sports Complex, the soccer program will get the fields it desperately needs, protected gopher tortoises will get a new home and Starling residents will get peace and quiet. Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation director Mark Thornton outlined the plan at a meeting at the Palmetto Club Wednesday night where a show of hands indicated residents approved of the concept. In an agreement hashed out with the help of FishHawk Ranch developer Newland Communities, the parks department plans to add four new soccer fields north of the existing complex on 20 acres currently owned by Newlands Communities and designated for conservation. FishHawk Residents to Weigh in on Plans to Expand Sports Complex

The public meeting will be held tonight at the Palmetto Club.

Members of the county parks staff will take another stab at a plan to expand the FishHawk Sports Complex that all residents can agree upon. A public meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 24 at 6:30 p.m. at the Palmetto Club, 17004 Dorman Rd., Lithia. At the meeting, members of the Hillsborough County Parks, Recreation and Conservation Department will discuss a new plan to expand the sports complex with five more fields for the soccer and football programs along with parking. At the urging of soccer parents and players, the county first proposed an expansion of the complex in December 2011 to accommodate the growing soccer program.
