Food Truck 'Revolution' Hits Winthrop

Generation Food Truck was on hand at the Winthrop Pole Barn in Riverview, where Candy Gomez talked about her family's business to promote food trucks and food-truck festivals and events.

  Her husband a former member of a rock band, Candy Gomez now spends her time with him on the road, in a truck, promoting food trucks at events and festivals throughout the Tampa Bay area, including at the Winthrop Pole Barn in Riveriview last night, April 26. There, as part of a Yelp festival, Gomez talked about her family's Not Your Ordinary Food Truck and their subsequent launch seven months ago of Generation Food Truck, a promotion, booking, festival coordinating and consulting business for food-truck operators. The aim is to impress upon the masses that "The Food Revolution Is Here" while working with area businesses, charities and non-profit organizations to stage marketing and fundraising events, festivals and promotions. Town History: Riverview High Wasn't Always 'Riverview High'

The Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce's April 23 luncheon was sponsored by the Riverview High School Athletic Booster Club at The Regent. There, principal Robert "Bob" Heilmann talked about the school's history and achievements.

    Riverview High School Principal Robert "Bob" Heilmann acknowledged at the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce luncheon this week that his school, indeed, has had many accolades and accomplishments. As principal, he added, "I just drive the bus," after which he applauded the work of  teachers, students, parents, coaches, school administrators and groups and organizations, including Angela Slater, who this year registered her 500th win as a high school softball coach in Hillsborough County. Heilmann said he hoped the business leaders knew what was "going on at 11311 Boyette Road, besides the traffic jams," in reference to the school's address and the ongoing road-widening construction from FishHawk Boulevard through Boyette Road. Riverview Coach Recognized for 500th Win

Riverview High School teacher Angela Slater was recognized at the April 2013 Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce meeting for her 500th win as a softball coach in Hillsborough County.

  Angela Slater was one of the many people singled out at the April 23 membership luncheon of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, sponsored by the Riverview High School Athletic Booster Club. Slater's claim to fame is that this year she won her 500th victory as a softball coach in Hillsborough County, where she has been teaching for 28 years, including the first 13 at Brandon High and the next 15 at Riverview. The milestone win came March 26 at East Bay High School, where the Riverview Sharks, trailing with two outs in the final inning, scored a 9-6 victory after a three-run homer by Jordan Phillips. Sedgebrook Drive Noted in Boyette Road Work Announcements

As always, keep your eyes open for new traffic patterns, and road closures, along Boyette Road.

  Traffic-patttern changes are nothing new for gridlock-weary motorists along Boyette Road as construction work continues. A sign along the route, near Bells Shoals Road, announces the work that is ongoing near and on Sedgebrook Drive. The sign, as noted Sunday, April 21, notes that the road is closed and that new traffic patterns start April 25. Hillsborough County officials place online announcements about constrution on local roads. Spring Jubilee 2013: When, Where and What's Happening at St. Stephen

The 12th annual Spring Jubilee is set to run April 11 to 14 on the grounds of St. Stephen Catholic School in Riverview.

  The 12th annual Spring Jubilee opens today, April 11, at the St. Stephen Catholic School in Riverivew, at 10424 St. Stephen Circle, west of Bell Shoals Road and FishHawk Boulevard. St. Stephen, Edge and Life Teen variety shows are included in the first-day lineup of performers. Also at the Spring Jubilee: carnival rides, food, activities and free entertainment.   Recognized for being an 8-gallon blood donor, Riverview High School principal Robert Heilmann received high praise from Mike Pratt of OneBlood Inc., who on April 4 heralded the school's 2013 receipt of the national School Blood Drive Award. "He just exudes leadership," Pratt said. "He's instilling a sense of community responsibility in these young people." Nam Knights Westside Raises Funds for Haley House Fund

Representatives from the Haley House Fund talk about their cause and give thanks for the annual Nam Knights Westside Chapter charity pig roast fundraiser, held this year at Winthrop in Riverview on April 6.

  For seven of the nine years the Haley House Fund has been in existence the Nam Knight Westside Chapter has held an annual pig roast fundraiser at Winthrop to raise funds for the fund's mission. "It's gone quite well," said Vietnam veteran Dave Braun, a former honrary mayor of Brandon, who heralded the Haley House Fund formation years ago at a Greater Brandon Chamber of Commerce Event. "We're all proud of doing what we're doing and for who we're doing it for, which are our most injured soldiers, at the James Haley Veterans Hospital. Our focus is on the families and friends of these soldiers, we put them up." Pig Roast Benefit at Winthrop Today

The seventh annual Nam Knights Westside Chapter charity pig roast aims to benefit the Haley House Fund and some law enforcement charities.

  Members of the Nam Knights Westside Chapter were up early this morning, April 6, to prepare for the club's wildly popular annual fundriaser at Winthrop in Riverview, where pigs are roasted and dollars are raised to benefit the Haley House Fund and some law enforcement charities. The event runs from noon to 5 p.m., with food served until 4 p.m. The event features as well live music, beer and vendors. The fundraiser is at the Winthorp Pole Parn off Bloomingdale Avenue, between Watson and Providence roads. The cost to attend is $15. There was a $5 discount for tickets purchased in advance. Mary Ann Keckler, with the aid of Mary Ellen Harlan and Dr. Steven Scott, founded the Haley House Fund, a charity that houses and supports the families …
