Humans aren't the only creatures feeling the effects of Florida's recent frigid temperatures. Despite fur-covered bodies, four-legged friends are also feeling the chill. According to Hillsborough County Animal Services, cold-weather exposure makes pets more susceptible to hypothermia, a preventable condition that inhibits the body's ability to regulate temperature. Pets can become seriously ill or even die from prolonged exposure to cold weather. Particularly at risk are older and very young animals. Animals Services offers five things you can do to keep your pet safe and healthy in cold weather: 1, Take all pets indoors whenever possible - especially the old and very young. Looking for somewhere to volunteer during the holidays? Bloomingdale Patch has compiled a list of 5 things you can do to help out this year. 1. Providence Baptist Church and Cynthia Pinckney Ministries will host a Christmas Day Dinner for the homeless, needy, displaced and hungry. The event will be held in the gym at Providence Christian School at 5416 Providence Road, Riverview from 3 to 5 p.m, Saturday, Dec. 25.
