Winterfest at Winthrop Continues Today

The three-day event benefiting Brandon area charities will run through 5 p.m. Dec. 2.

The Greater Brandon Community Foundation'S annual Winterfest continues today at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue. Sunday, Dec. 2 from noon to 5 p.m., there are bounce houses and slides, carnival games, hay rides, Santa's workshop, face painting, entertainment and craft vendors.

Winterfest Kicks Off Friday with Ceremonial Tree Lighting

The festival will run from Nov. 30 to Dec. 1 at Winthrop Town Centre on Bloomingdale Avenue.

The Greater Brandon Community Foundation is planning a weekend filled with activities guaranteed to help the biggest Scrooge get into the spirit of the season. The foundation is hosting its third annual Winterfest at Winthrop Town Centre, 6030 Winthrop Town Centre Ave., Riverview, at the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and Providence Road Nov. 30 to Dec. 2. The festivities kick off Friday night from 7 to 10 p.m. with a tree-lighting ceremony, entertainment and a campfire and outdoor movies with s'mores and hot chocolate. The fun continues Saturday, Dec. 1 from 11 a.m. to sunset and Sunday, Dec. 2 from noon to 5 p.m. with bounce houses, hay rides, Santa's workshop, face painting, entertainment and craft vendors. Winterfest at Winthrop Proves Cool Hit

The festival included a chance for children to share lunch with Santa, an opportunity 275 couldn't pass up.

It was hard to tell who was more excited to see the snow flurries during the lighting of the Winterfest at Winthrop Christmas tree Dec. 3. “I think the parents are enjoying it as much as the kids,” said Jen Strehl, holding her 20-month-old son, Ricky, as the child stared wide-eyed at seeing his first snowfall. The manufactured snow blowing from a snowmaker perched on an upper Winthrop Town Centre townhouse sundeck wasn’t enough to coat the ground even though one little girl tried making snow angels in the grass. But it was enough to let some youngsters experience their first snowfall.
