Teen Killed in Traffic Crash; South Kings Ave. Shut Down

A Ford Explorer carrying seven people overturned at South Kings and Coppertree Circle in Brandon, and one teen was ejected and died at the scene, officials said.

A teenager is dead following a traffic crash that shut down Kings Avenue south of Bloomingdale Avenue on Friday afternoon, authorities said. It wasn't immediately clear what caused the accident at South Kings and Coppertree Circle in Brandon, where a Ford Explorer carrying seven people left the roadway and overturned around 2:50 p.m. Friday. The teen was ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene, while the other passengers received only minor injuries, sheriff's office spokesperson Larry McKinnon said. South Kings Avenue was closed south of Bloomingdale for several hours as the investigation continued. Stay tuned to Patch for updates to this story.

Sheriff David Gee's Wife Injured in Crash With Gang Member

Rhonda Gee suffered possible head injuries when her car was struck by a driver who had just threatened to kill a Valrico gas station clerk, officials said.

The wife of Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee was injured in a traffic crash Thursday morning in Valrico when her car was struck by a reported gang member who had just threatened to kill a gas station clerk, authorities said. Rhonda Gee, 42, suffered possible head injuries when her 2012 Dodge was hit by a 1995 Buick at Bloomingdale Avenue and Lithia Pinecrest Road sometime after 7:30 a.m. Thursday, according to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office. The driver of the Buick, Raul de Alejandro, 22, of Dover, had gotten into an argument with the clerk at the Hess gas station at 3353 Lithia Pinecrest Road after the clerk refused to sell him cigarettes because he had no identification to prove his age, officials said.
