As part of its mission to support the community and improve education for students, the club will host Country-Western-themed dinner and dance to raise money for college scholarships for high school seniors who are residents of Riverview. A lifelong resident of Riverview, Earl Lennard will talk about the community's history and remembrances of growing up in south Hillsborough County at the Wednesday, Jan. 16 meeting of the Riverview Woman's Club. The meeting will begin at 11:30 a.m. with networking and a luncheon from noon to 1 p.m. at Doc's Grill at the Summerfield Crossings Golf Club, 13050 Summerfield Blvd., Riverview. Lennard, 70. who recently celebrated his retirement as Hillsborough County Supervisor of Elections, is well qualified to speak about the Riverview area. There's no need to travel halfway around the world for great Italian food. The Riverview Woman's Club is inviting members of the community to enjoy "A Night in Sicily" Saturday, Nov. 17 from 6 to 9 p.m. at the Summerfield Crossings Golf Club, 13050 Summerfield Blvd., Riverview. For $25, residents will enjoy an Italian buffet dinner with chicken Parmigiana, penne pasta, red and white sauces, meatballs, garlic bread and salad. Tiramisu and coffee will complete the meal. The event also will include a free wine tasting from 6 to 7 p.m. with a cash bar available as well. Those attending will enjoy a wine pull, restock the bar raffle and silent auction as well. The Riverview Woman's Club had 49 women at its June 20 luncheon to hear featured speaker, County Commissioner Sandy Murman.
With the promise of County Commissioner Sandy Murman as the featured speaker, 49 women attended the June 20 meeting of the Riverview Woman's Club at the Doc's Grill at the Summerfield Crossings Golf Club, 13050 Summerfield Blvd., Riverview. "We were so happy. It was a great turnout and Sandy did such a great job," said Donna Lee Fore, vice president of the club. "She talked about empowering woman and how women need to join forces and work together to achieve success." The Riverview Woman's Club makes its mark at the first fundraiser for the newly incorporated club, which meets monthly for friendship and networking.
The "Party Yourself Into Shape Zumba Fundraiser" made its mark at The Regent in Riverview as the first major event of the newly formed Riverview Woman's Club. The club draws women from Riverview, primarily, but also from other communities, inlcuding Seffner, Ruskin, Brandon and Bloomingdale, said Daisy Vega, the event chair. "This is our first event and it's very successful so far," said Vega, as the fundraiser got under way June 9. "I picked Zumba because I'm such a bubbly person." Damaris de Jesus served as a Zumba instructor, giving her reasons for loving Zumba, a Latin-inspired, calorie-burning, dance-fitness program developed by Alberto "Beto" Perez in Colombia during the 1990s. A group of Riverview women have joined forces to raise funds for the community. And if they make some friends and have some fun in the process, that's OK, too. The brainchild of Riverview businesswomen Jeanne Burkeson and Donna Lee Fore, the new Riverview Woman's Club was incorporated as a nonprofit organization in April. Over the past two months, the club's membership has swelled to 30 paid members. "The club got started in March," said Fore, who serves as the club's vice president while Burkeson is the charter president. "Jeanne and I were both talking about forming a woman's club in Riverview since Riverview really doesn't have a club for women. We just felt it was something the community needed.
