Riverview Coach Recognized for 500th Win

Riverview High School teacher Angela Slater was recognized at the April 2013 Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce meeting for her 500th win as a softball coach in Hillsborough County.

  Angela Slater was one of the many people singled out at the April 23 membership luncheon of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce, sponsored by the Riverview High School Athletic Booster Club. Slater's claim to fame is that this year she won her 500th victory as a softball coach in Hillsborough County, where she has been teaching for 28 years, including the first 13 at Brandon High and the next 15 at Riverview. The milestone win came March 26 at East Bay High School, where the Riverview Sharks, trailing with two outs in the final inning, scored a 9-6 victory after a three-run homer by Jordan Phillips. Sharks Prevail at Riverview Chamber Luncheon

Local business leaders celebrate the achievements of Riverview High School, at a Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce luncheon sponsored by the Riverview High School Athletic Booster Club.

Throughout the banquet room at The Regent in Riverview people were seen dressed in black, blue and white, wearing the school colors of Riverivew High School, as the April 23 luncheon of the Greater Riverview Chamber of Commerce got under way. At the luncheon were lots of sharks, stuffed and human, in recognition of the school's mascot. The luncheon was sponsored by the Riverview High School Athletic Booster Club. The featured speaker was principal Robert "Bob" Heilmann, who talked about the school's history and its many achievements, including its recent recognition as the nation's top school in blood donations. Spoto High's Cassandra Mattison Named Hillsborough Teacher of the Year

Cassandra Mattison, a graduate of King High School, was named 2012-13 Teacher of the Year for Hillsborough County at a banquet hosted by the Hillsborough Education Foundation on March 28.

  The Spoto High School community was set to congratulate Cassandra Mattison back at school today, the morning after she was named Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year, at a March 28 banquet hosted by the Hillsborough Education Foundation. In accepting the award, Mattison "thanked the teachers at every school she has attended in Hillsborough County, starting with Shaw Elementary and ending with King High School," according to a Tampa Bay Times report on the event. "I would not be standing where I am today if it were not for teachers like you," she reportedly told the audience of more than 2,000 educators. 2013 Riverview Idol: Top 10 Contestants Advance

The Riverview Idol contest at Riverview High School returns for a second round Tuesday, March 5. See who advanced to the Top 10 round of competition.

  Ten singers have advanced to the second round of 2013 Riverview Idol competition after performing with 15 of their peers at Riverview High School on Tuesday, Feb. 26. In all, about 45 students had auditioned to compete for a Top 25 spot. Jeremy Rosado of Valrico, cheered on by the Greater Brandon community in his 2012 run for the American Idol crown, is set to judge the final round of the Riverview Idol contest, March 19. But first, the second round of competition kicks off 7 p.m. March 5, also at the high school.
