Read a good book lately? You might want to check out these novels by award-winning author Lori Roy. National Library Week concludes tomorrow, April 20, with an opportunity to meet and greet Roy, the 2012 Edgar Allen Poe’s Best First Novel award recipient. Born and raised in Kansas, Roy graduated from Kansas State University and now lives in west-central Florida. Her debut novel, Bent Road, not only won the Edgar Allen Poe award but was named a 2011 New York Times Notable Crime Book and was nominated for the Book-of-the-Month Club First Fiction Award. If you're thinking about booking it to the Riverview Branch Library, you'd better hurry. The Riverview Branch Library, 10509 Riverview Dr., Riverview, will be closed for some general repair and maintenance on Thursday, Dec. 13 and Friday, Dec. 14. For those two days, the library system is encouraging patrons of that library to instead use: For other locations and their hours, library patrons should call 813-273-3652, or check out the library locations online at hcplc.org.

Procrastinators might want to rush to the nearest Early Voting site today.
More than 138,200 voters have cast Early Voting ballots in Hillsborough County for the General Election. If you're not one of them, you can still rush to the nearest voting site today, the final day of early voting. Voting will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Fifteen sites throughout Hillsborough County have been accepting early votes since Oct. 27. Among the busier sites is the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, where voters have faced lines meandering outside the library and down the sidewalk. As of Thursday, 8,549 voters had cast their ballots at the Bloomingdale library. Reptile breeder Gino Sassani of Lost World Reptiles in Tampa will be on hand with some scaly friends on Oct. 1 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Riverview Branch Library, 10509 Riverview Dr. Riverview. Sassani has been collecting reptiles since he was a young boy in Reading, Pa. "In the early '80s I 'accidentally' bred a pair of snakes that I thought weren't even supposed to breed. (One was a female yellow rat and the other was a corn snake I thought was also a female)," said Sassani. "Incubating the eggs and finally seeing them hatch sparked a hobby that soon got out of control. I've been breeding snakes ever since."
