Plaza Bella Raises $21,000 for Breast Cancer Support

The fifth annual walk included a silent auction.

The fifth annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink breast cancer walk netted $21,053 for breast cancer research and support Oct. 20. This year's walk attracted more than 400 participants including the family of Antionette Cuellar, who lost her battle against breast cancer in May at the age of 48. The walk was dedicated in her memory and featured the release of white doves by her daughters, Alexandra, Alyssa and Olivia. Plaza Bella Hosts British Block Party

The event will take place Friday, Nov. 16 from 6 to 9 p.m.

The British will invade Plaza Bella Friday night when the merchants of the shopping center on Bloomingdale Avenue host their first British-American Block Party. Joining forces with the Brandon British Club founded by Bloomingdale resident Jen Johanson, the event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. and include fish and chips from Cheddar Biscuit, British rock n' roll from Big Beats Entertainment, a James Bond and Austin Powers costume contest, a display of Mini-Coopers along with a James Bond treasure hunt and trivia contest. One inspiration for the evening was The Green Boutique's newest offering, My Flat in London, an exclusive line of handbags, jewelry and accessories designed by Jan Haedrich. Hundreds Go Pink at Plaza Bella Breast Cancer Walk

The fifth annual event was held Oct. 20 at Plaza Bella.

Tears flowed as the daughters of Antionette Cuellar recalled their mother's giving spirit, her zest for life and her steadfast determination to beat the cancer that, nevertheless, took her life in May at the age of 48. The daughters' comments were followed by a rendition of Cuellar's favorite song, "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus, and the release of white doves in her honor. It was an appropriate remembrance for the woman who participated in and was the spokeswomen for the annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink walk. Although Cuellar was not physically present at this year's fifth annual walk on Saturday, Oct. 20, Plaza Bella Goes Pink founder, Roz Creager, owner of The Green Boutique, said she could fill her spirit with them. Plaza Bella Hosts 5th Annual Fundraiser for Breast Cancer

The fundraiser will take place Saturday, Oct. 20 starting at 9 a.m.

Residents are invited to put on their walking shoes and head to Plaza Bella for the fifth annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink. The event, to support breast cancer research and the patients who are affected by breast cancer, will take place Saturday, Oct. 20 at the shopping plaza on Bloomingdale Avenue and Bell Shoals Road.  According to Roz Creager, owner of The Green Boutique in Plaza Bella, 1078 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico, this year's walk is dedicated to Antoinette Cuellar, who died in May after a battle with breast cancer. Local Chocolatier Celebrates Milestone

Plaza Bella Fundraiser Nets Nearly $1,000 for A Kid's Place

The Friday night Taste of the Caribbean fundraiser featured island music, food and drinks along with discounts and specials from the merchants of Plaza Bella.

While the emphasis was on fun, the first Taste of Caribbean evening at Plaza Bella on Bloomingdale Avenue had a more serious purpose. The event Friday, Sept. 14, was designed to raise funds for A Kid's Place, a home for abused and neglected children in Brandon. During the festive end-of-summer celebration, residents enjoyed  Caribbean-style foods, listened to music from the islands, courtesy of Big Beats DJ, and try island drinks provided by El Dorado Rum.  Those who made a donation to A Kid's Place got to roll the dice for a chance to win a Sandals or Beaches vacation. Merchants at Plaza Bella will celebrate Christmas in July Friday, July 27 from 6 to 9 p.m. (Green Boutique will be open until 8 p.m.) Customers are invited to get a jump on the holiday season with Orange Home Accessories, The Original Leena's Chocolate and The Green Boutique.
