The Lithia resident is charged with threatening to discharge a destructive device.
The parent of a Pinecrest Elementary School student was arrested yesterday after reportedly threatening to blow up her child's school. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Jessica Schauer, 26, of 623 Wendel Ave., Lithia, was visiting Pinecrest Elementary School on Lithia-Pinecrest Road Wednesday, Dec. 19, and reportedly said, "Don't bring your kid to school that day." When asked "which day," she replied, "The day I blow it up." Her comments were heard by two people who told the principal. The principal contacted the sheriff's office. Schauer was arrested at her home Dec. 20 at about 11 a.m. and charged with one count of threatening to discharge a destructive device.

Carla Bruning, current principal at King High School, will replace retiring Newsome Principal Rebecca Fitzgerald.
The Hillsborough County School Board voted unanimously to transfer King High School Principal Carla Bruning to Newsome High School to fill the shoes of retiring Newsome Principal Rebecca Fitzgerald. The vote came today during the board’s regular meeting. School board members Jack Lamb and April Griffin said they voted in favor of the transfer reluctantly. “We are going to be very sorry to lose you at King,” Lamb told Bruning. “You’re going to be missed by the entire Temple Terrace community,” added Griffin. “Newsome is very lucky to get you. Eighth-grade student Jessica Martinez will receive the YEA Award April 20 at County Center.
In many ways 15-year-old Jessica Martinez is just a typical teenager. She enjoys listening to her iPod, hanging out with friends, playing badminton, winning hula hoop contests and shopping at the mall, especially Abercrombie & Fitch and Aeropostale. But Jessica has triumphed over many challenges to become a regular teenager. Born with a significant hearing loss, Jessica wears a hearing aid and participates in therapies designed to improve her communication ability.
