Joining forces with the Brandon British Club founded by Bloomingdale resident Jen Johanson, the event will run from 6 to 9 p.m. and include fish and chips from Cheddar Biscuit, British rock n' roll from Big Beats Entertainment, a James Bond and Austin Powers costume contest, a display of Mini-Coopers along with a James Bond treasure hunt and trivia contest. Tears flowed as the daughters of Antionette Cuellar recalled their mother's giving spirit, her zest for life and her steadfast determination to beat the cancer that, nevertheless, took her life in May at the age of 48. The daughters' comments were followed by a rendition of Cuellar's favorite song, "The Climb" by Miley Cyrus, and the release of white doves in her honor. It was an appropriate remembrance for the woman who participated in and was the spokeswomen for the annual Plaza Bella Goes Pink walk. Although Cuellar was not physically present at this year's fifth annual walk on Saturday, Oct. 20, Plaza Bella Goes Pink founder, Roz Creager, owner of The Green Boutique, said she could fill her spirit with them. Thanks to our readers, we collected more than double our target.
Back in April, we asked Patch readers throughout the Tampa Bay area to assist us in collecting food to help feed families in need this summer. Our goal was humble. We wanted to collect 2,000 pounds of nonperishable goods from the 19 communities we serve in the Bay area. We should have known better than set such a conservative goal. After all, our readers and business partners are awesome! So awesome, in fact, that we crushed that goal of 2,000 pounds. When all was said and done and the last cans were picked up the first week of June, our final weigh-in brought us to just under 5,000 pounds collected. We more than doubled what we’d hoped for! The Original Leena's Chocolates and Orange Home Accessories are getting into the swing of spring Friday, March 23 with "In Full Bloom," a celebration of spring, from 6-9 p.m. at Plaza Bella.
