Newsome High School senior Noah Schaller has committed to attend Heidelberg University in Tiffin, Ohio, and play football in the fall. While at Heidelberg, he plans to study business administration. The 6-0, 220-pound linebacker was team captain for the Wolves and made 34 tacles last season, 21 of them solo. He is the son of Paul and Tami Schaller. Under the direction of Heidelberg head coach Mike Hallett, the 2012 Heidelberg football team finished 9-2. The season was highlighted by a trip to the postseason for the first time since 1972. A member of NCAA Division III and the highly competitive Ohio Athletic Conference, Heidelberg offers 20 varsity sports in its athletic program. The Newsome Wolves travel to Osceola Kissimmee tonight, Nov. 30, for the FHSAA Class 7A-Region 2 final. Newsome advanced after last week's upset of the undefeated Durant Cougars. This week, the Wolves face another undefeated team.
Forget the regular season's four losses. The Newsome Wolves have advanced to the third round of 2012 Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) post-season play, having defeated the undefeated Durant Cougars last week. The game tonight, Nov. 30, is the Class 7A-Region 2 final, with Newsome having another chance to break an undefeated streak, this time facing Osceola High in Kissimmee. Game time is 7:30 p.m. Newsome (8-4) faces the Kowboys (12-0), ranked nationally and in the state at 313 and 22, respectively, according to MaxPreps.com. Meanwhile, the Wolves are ranked 888 in the nation and 68 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. The Newsome High School Athletic Booster Club is inviting the community to celebrate its big win over the Durant High School Cougars football team Friday night by joining the players and fans at Park Square Pizza,16132 Churchview Dr., Lithia, The Wolves. led by coach Ken Hiscock, triumphed over its district rival 21-14 in the Class 7A-Region 2 semifinal, ending Durant's undefeated season. Newsome now advances to play Kissimmee Osceola next Friday. In the meantime, Park Square Pizza owner Salvatore Varotta is helping the team celebrate the big win tonight.
