Bloomingdale East drivers should be prepared to take a detour on Natures Way as work gets under way to repair a sewage line. Today, Feb. 15, two of the four lanes of Natures Way will be closed between Callista Avenue and Dunaire Drive to set up bypass pumping operations, according to the Hillsborough County Public Utilities Department. Next week, all four lanes will be closed to repair the 18-inch ductile iron pipeline. Through-traffic on Natures Way will be rerouted at Greenhollow Lane and Glenhaven Drive. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office said it could be several more weeks before investigators issue their report.
It could be several more weeks before Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office traffic investigators issue a final report on the cause of the crash that killed Bloomingdale High School student Zach McCarthy. Detective Larry McKinnon, spokesman for the sheriff's office, said investigators are looking at all possible causes for the Jan. 2 crash on Natures Way. "They're looking at what was going on inside the car at the time of the crash as well as what was occurring outside," said McKinnon. The investigation will include interviews with passenger Michaela Faessler, 15, who was not injured in the crash, an assessment of the car's speed at the time of the crash, whether any other vehicle was involved and anything that may have distracted McCarthy …

The county has installed two flashing speed signs to alert drivers going over the 30 mph speed limit.
Drivers who are tempted to speed around Natures Way in Bloomingdale East may find themselves facing a costly fine. In an attempt to curb speedsters along the road, posted for 30 mph, the Bloomingdale Homeowners Association appealed to Hillsborough County, which installed two signals that flash the driver's speed and warns the driver to slow down. One signal is located near the Bloomingdale Golfers Club. The other is posted on the north side of Natures Way. In addition, the county relocated some speed signs that were obscured by trees,n painted the 30 mph speed limit directly on the road and installed "Thank You for Slowing Down" signs. It's sad that we've lost yet another youth in a vehicular accident. Speeding through residential neighborhoods, main road or not, is beyond frustrating to me.
