Undercover detectives seized guns from convicted felons and drug dealers operating across the street from Gibsonton Elementary School. Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee discussed “Operation Cease Fire” at a Jan. 15 press conference.
Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee announced the results of a six-month undercover operation that resulted in a wave of arrests of convicted felons who sold guns and drugs across the street from Gibsonton Elementary School. In all, 10 people have been arrested, with arrest warrants issued for three additional people, according to Gee's report, issued at a Jan. 15 press conference (see chart below). Nine of the 13 people netted in the undercover operation were convicted felons, "who sold 29 firearms and 40 silencers to undercover detectives," Gee said. Seven youth were in an SUV on Kings Avenue, south of Bloomingdale Avenue, when it crashed June 15, reportedly killing Tyler Stich, 17, after he was ejected from the vehicle.
Tyler Stich, 17, of Brandon, has been identified as the youth killed in the SUV crash on Kings Avenue, according to a video and news report from WTSP.com 10 News. According to the report, Stich was one of seven youth in the vehicle, including six teens and one 9-year-old. He reportedly was ejected from the SUV after it “left the road and overturned,” and then “landed on top of him, killing him instantly.” Michael Kryder, 16, the driver, and the others in the vehicle suffered "only minor injuries," according to the report. Kryder had not been cited. According to Beau Zimmer's report, investigators do not believe alcohol, speed or the day's rains played a role in the crash. A family stood in shock and grace as they watched firefighters and investigators sift through the remains of their Partridge Point home in the Twin Lakes of Brandon community in Valrico.
Update: 'Code Red Fire Spread Rapidly at Twin Lakes of Brandon Home (Photos) ______________ Family members stood together in support Thursday on Partridge Point Trail, in the Twin Lakes of Brandon community in Valrico, where Linda Baldwin watched in shock as firefighters and detectives scoured through her fire-ravaged home. “Just give them your blessings,” said Nina Robnett, whose brother, Craig, is married to Baldwin. “They need prayers, most of all, and strength." The Baldwin home, at 3016 Partridge Point Trail, was consumed by flames earlier today, June 7, as neighbors looked on helplessly. Nobody was in the home when the fire started. While major crime is down in this part of the county, petty crimes are occurring to obtain Oxycodone
Major crime in District IV may be down, but that doesn’t mean residents should let their guards down. With the popularity of Oxycodone, an opium-derived pain medication, and Roxicodone, an instant release form of Oxycodone, theft is on the rise, according to Sgt. Susan Bradford of the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office Street Crimes Unit. While major crimes such as robberies and aggravated assaults were down by 21.2 percent in 2009-10 in District IV, which includes the Bloomingdale/FishHawk area, those addicted to pain killers are committing more petty crimes to satisfy their habits, said Bradford.
