Coverage of Mother's Day Buca di Beppo Fire

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue reports that the May 12 fire at Buca di Beppo is under investigation and is believed to be accidental.

  Their Mother's Day meal was mostly eaten when Jodie Rubio and her family first smelled the smoke at Buca di Beppo in Brandon, which moments later was evacuated in a timely fashion. No injuries were reported in the May 12 fire, for which a 911 call had been received at about 7:30 p.m., according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue spokesperson Ronnie Rivera. He added in a later report that "the cause of the fire is still under investigation but it is believed to be an accidental fire." ______________

Fireworks Ruled Cause of FishHawk Brush Fire

Teens playing with fireworks caused the large brush fire in FishHawk Ranch on March 29 that threatened homes and Bevis Elementary School, according to a report from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

  Fire investigators say juveniles playing with fireworks caused the brush fire in Lithia on March 29 that threatened homes and caused the evacuation of students from the FishHawk Early Learning Center at Bevis Elementary School. "There were witnesses that stated that a few teenagers playing with fireworks in the area affected by the fire prior to the incident," according to a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue report. An investigation determined "that the cause of the fire was a result of fireworks," the report adds. "Several juveniles were playing with fireworks in the area. Man Found Dead in Riverview House Fire

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded to an overnight fire in Riverview, where first responders found a man dead in one of the bedrooms. His daughter, who lived next door, placed the 911 call, according to the report.

A man was found dead in his Riverview home today, March 29, after his alert daughter, who lived next door, called 911 with a report that flames were showing at 10323 Cone Grove, according to a Hillsborough County Fire Rescue report. Firefighters arriving at around 3 a.m. found the home "fully involved in flames" and "quickly attacked the fire from different directions," according to the report. A primary search was performed, then a secondary search minutes later, "while the house was still burning." During this second search "fire rescue crews found an adult male in one of the bedrooms deceased." Formaggio's Worker Burned in Explosion at FishHawk Baseball Fields

The incident happened at about 9 a.m. Saturday, March 23.

Morning games at the FishHawk Youth Sports Complex were interrupted when an explosion occurred at Formaggio's Pizzeria, which operates in a trailer between the baseball fields. According to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue, a man was attempting to ignite the pilot of an external propane tank at about 9 a.m. when a buildup of propane gas flashed and caused first- and second-degree burns to the man's face, arms and legs. "Engine crews on scene were able to turn off the tanks and secure the area," fire rescue spokeswoman Jessica Damico said in an email sent to the media. No children were injured during the accident and there was no damage to the trailer or baseball facility, Damico said. There may have been a malfunction in the propane line, …

Riverview Home Damaged in Fire

Hillsborough County firefighters were able to quickly put out the blaze on Tarragon Drive.

A homeowner’s alarm system gets the credit for alerting Hillsborough County Fire Rescue to a blaze that broke out in a Tarragon Drive home in Riverview this morning, Feb. 7. The alarm alerted firefighters to a possible problem at the 10331 Tarragon Drive home. Upon arrival, firefighters were able to put out the fire, which was concentrated to the kitchen in the area of the stove, a fire rescue media release stated. Damage from the fire was limited to the kitchen, but smoke damage is evident throughout the home, the release said. No one was home at the time the fire broke out and no injuries were reported.

Valrico Garage Fire Under Investigation

The fire broke out at around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 6.

Hillsborough County fire investigators are still looking into the cause of a fire that broke out around 11 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, at a home at 4007 Highgate Dr., Valrico, off St. Cloud Avenue. Three adult residents of the single-family home reported that the power went out and, when it came back on, they heard a bang outside. When they investigated, they found the attached garage engulfed in flames. There were no injuries and the Red Cross for requested for assistance.

Firefighter Injured Fighting Riverview Mobile Home Fire

The fire broke out about 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5.

A Hillsborough County firefighter is listed in good condition after a roof collapsed on him while fighting a mobile home fire at 12914 Darla Dr., Riverview, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 11:20 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 5, to find the heavy flames emerging from the attic of the mobile home. No one was home at the time and the residents' dogs were safe in the yard. While firefighters doused the flames, the home's roof partially collasped, injuring one firefighter. He was transported to the hospital for evaluation. Investigators are looking into the cause.

UPDATE: Riverview Brush Fire Under Control

The fire began earlier today.

A brush fire that began around noon today in south Hillsborough County is now under control, according to officials at Hillsborough County Fire Rescue. The fire was reported to the emergency dispatch center in the area of Rhodine Road and Rising Oak Trail in Riverview, officials said. The fire affected about 35 acres, and crews battled the blaze for over five hours, officials said. A horse rescue property was protected by fire rescue during the incident, officials said.

Small Plane Crashes in South Hillsborough County

The pilot was 84-year-old Eugene Massa.

A Bradenton resident was airlifted to the hospital after he crashed his small experimental ultralite in a cow pasture off U.S. 41. Eugene Massa, 84, of 4033 Lake Bayshore Dr., Bradenton, took off from the Manatee Airport in his small fixed-wing ultralite. At about 9:30 a.m., the airport notified the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office that Massa had reported engine problems at 300 feet and had possibly gone down. A search of the area led to the discovery of the plane in a cow pasture located at 6528 U.S. 41, near the Manatee County line. The crash occurred on private property about 500 feet off U.S. 41. Massa was alert and talking when he was airlifted to Blake Hospital in Manatee County. The remainder of the investigation will be …

Lithia Home Destroyed by Fire

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue responded about 9:30 a.m. Jan. 22 to reports of a fully involved house fire on Thompson Road.

Fire investigators remain on the scene of a fire that destroyed a Lithia home earlier today, Jan. 22. According to Fire Rescue public information officer Nacole Revette, firefighters responded to reports of a fire at 645 Thompson Rd. around 9:30 a.m. to find the two-story house fully engulfed in flames. The owners, who have not been identified, were out of town when the fire broke out. Revette said eight Fire Rescue units responded to the fire. The units included four tanker trucks because there are no active fire hydrants in that area of rural Lithia. Revette said it took several hours to get the fire under control. Investigators are still looking into the cause.
