While statewide numbers are down, Hillsborough County saw an increase in collisions in 2011, according to a new state report. We want to hear from you Lutz on what roads worry you the most.
The number of traffic crashes in Hillsborough County rose from 17,480 in 2010 to 18,027 in 2011. A total of four teen drivers or their passengers, ages 15 to 19, were killed in motor vehicle accidents in Hillsborough in 2011. Seven bicyclists were killed while trying to navigate Hillsborough roadways. These are just a few of the numbers released in the state Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles 2011 Florida Crash Statistics Report. The report was just released by the state and includes a variety of information related to roadway safety throughout the state and in Hillsborough County. Voting takes place Nov. 26 to Dec. 14.
Floridians will get a chance to pick their favorite license plate design in an upcoming Web vote from Nov. 26 through Dec. 14. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles wants to upgrade the basic Florida plate to a design that increases readability and features a seven-character configuration. A committee of more than 20 stakeholders, including state agency personnel, law enforcement, tax collectors and affiliated associations, participated in the development of the final license plate designs. DHSMV’s in-house graphics artist created the designs. Starting Nov. 26, residents can vote www.Vote4FloridaTag.com. The Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles not only salutes Floridians who have served in America’s armed forces on Veterans Day but throughout the year. “On this Veterans Day, we thank Floridians who have served our country,” said DHSMV Executive Director Julie L. Jones. “We are pleased to be involved with the community of veterans to help them and recognize them for the work they do and have done.” Recruiting Veterans DHSMV is always looking for qualified candidates to fill its ranks. The Florida Highway Patrol is working with the Florida National Guard and visiting job fairs at military installations and other locations to let service members and veterans know about career opportunities.
