Dan Wood's American Idol Run Short But Memorable

The Newsome High School graduate was voted off the television show Tuesday night.

It was a short-but-sweet ride. On Wednesday, Feb. 6, the first show of American Idol's Season 12, Newsome High School graduate Dan Wood was voted off by judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj. But the 22-year-old Apollo Beach resident said he has no regrets. After all, he pointed out, he got to meet Mariah Carey. Wednesday was Group Night on the show. The male contestants were asked to perform in groups of four. Wood's group, calling itself Last Minute, prepared to sing One Direction's "You Don't Know Your Beautiful." 'Singing Server' to Perform on American Idol Tonight, Feb. 6

Newsome High School graduate Dan Wood is expected to sing on Hollywood Round Part I of the popular television show starting at 8 p.m. on Fox Television.

At Circles Bar & Grill in Apollo Beach, he's known as "the singing waiter." But 2008 Newsome High School graduate Dan Wood soon will sing in front a much larger audience. At auditions Jan. 24 in Baton Rouge, La., Wood received his "golden ticket" from American Idol judges Randy Jackson, Mariah Carey, Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj and is headed to Hollywood to compete as a semifinalist on Season 12 of the television show (see the attached "Road to Hollywood" interview). Born in Houston, Wood, 22, moved with his family to FishHawk Ranch where he participated in cross country at Newsome High School and pursued his love of singing at St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico as the only male member of the Life Teen Choir. His mother, Cindy, served …
