Michael A. Whelan, 31, was killed when he lost control of his pickup truck Jan. 24.
A Riverview man was killed early Thursday morning, Jan. 24, in a single-car crash at the exit ramp from Interstate 75 to State Road 60. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Michael A. Whelan, 31, of Riverview was traveling south on the exit ramp from I-75 to State Road 60 in his 2007 Nissan Frontier pickup truck at 3:20 a.m. when he lost control, drove off the roadway and struck several reflectors and outside guardrail. The pickup then overturned and Whelan was ejected. The highway patrol is continuing its investigation into the accident.

A Riverview resident has been cited for careless driving after crashing into a sheriff's vehicle at U.S. 301 South and Interstate 75 Tuesday, Aug. 7 at 7:28 a.m. According to the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office, Deputy Milo Millovitch was in the middle of the median northbound on U.S. 301 under the Interstate 75 roadway when a 2008 Honda Civic traveling northbound in the center lane lost control and skidded into the rear of Millovitch's vehicle. The driver of the Honda, Raymond Clendinen, 30, of 14012 Hollow Leaf Place, Riverview, was transported to Brandon Regional Hospital with minor injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Leslie C. Blanton of Riverview died when a car drove into her path on U.S. 98.
A Riverview woman was killed on U.S. 98 in Pasco County Aug. 5 at 10:05 p.m. when another car crossed the center of the road and struck the car she was driving. Leslie C. Blanton, 56, of Riverview was killed in the crash. Also killed was were Joshua M. Brock, 22 of Dade City and his year-old passenger, Jason Brock. Blanton's passenger, Michael W. Blanton, 53, of Riverview, sustained minor injuries. According to the Florida Highway Patrol, for unknown reasons the Oldsmobile driven by Joshua Brock crossed the center of the roadway and drove directly into the path of Blanton's car. Rhonda Gee did not have any permanent injuries, just 'bumps and bruises' after her car crash with a known gang member, a sheriff's office spokesperson told the Tampa Bay Times.
The wife of Hillsborough County Sheriff David Gee was released from the hospital late Thursday following a car crash with a gang member in Valrico, the Tampa Bay Times reports. Rhonda Gee did not have any permanent injuries, just "bumps and bruises," sheriff's office spokesperson Larry McKinnon told the Times. Gee's car was plowed into by Raul de Alejandro, 22, around 7:30 a.m. Thursday near the intersection of Lithia Pinecrest Road and Bloomingdale Avenue, officials said. That the person hitting Mrs. Gee's auto was a gang member was not pertinent to the story. The two important things were that he was fleeing a possible crime and that he fled the scene. The use of his involvement in gang activity was not important as the incident did not represent a intentional accident against the sheriff or Mrs. Gee. This could be mentioned as a side issue but not a headline.   more ›
