You don't need to spend a fortune on an expensive birthday venue. There are many do-it-yourself options that can save a lot of money.

Each year as my son’s birthday approaches, it becomes increasingly more difficult to stave off the requests for an expensive birthday party at one of the popular venues. The clamoring gets louder with each new invitation he receives to attend one of his friend’s birthday parties, and my list of excuses grows. I’ll be honest, I’ve buckled under the pressure once or twice and spent the money for parties at Chuck E. Cheese, but mostly I’ve opted for less expensive options. When you’re on a budget, you begin to find alternatives to spending a paycheck on a birthday party.
