'Three Little Pigs' to be Staged at Center Place

The children's production will take place May 10 at 7 p.m.

Your kids most likely have heard the tale of the "Three Little Pigs" countless times. However, they've never heard it told like this. Stages Productions will present a comedic version of the "Three Little Pigs" including a rapping Big Bad Wolf Friday, May 10 at 7 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. In this tale, three unique piglets find themselves home alone when a certain well-known wolf invites himself to dinner. Will they be devoured separately or will they learn to overcome their differences and join forces to battle the hungry wolf? The production, which includes the themes of teamwork, character, sibling rivalry and work ethics, is suitable for children in prekindergarten through third grade. Tickets are $6 for Center…

Center Place to Host Annual Tree Lighting

It's time to deck the halls and light the community Christmas tree at Center Place.

  Brandon kicks off the holiday season in a grand way — and with tradition — as the town comes together for the annual lighting of the community Christmas tree at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, Wednesday, Dec. 5. The annual event has grown in stature, if not in numbers, as the event continues to take place in the Mook Gallery room of Center Place. Seating is limited but that doesn’t matter as the room fills to capacity with young kids sitting on the floor up front and adults and older kids lining up alongside and behind the seated audience. Halloween Horribles Parade Set for Center Place

The 15th Annual Halloween Horribles Parade will take place Oct. 28.

Little ghouls and goblins are invited to trick or treat around Center Place Oct. 28 during the 15th annual Hallloween Horribles Parade. It what's become a Brandon tradition, children ages 3 to 10, accompanied by an adult, will line up on the deck of Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, at 2:30 p.m. From there, they will parade down a route lined with "treat stations" hosted by area clubs and businesses. Each year, hundreds of Brandon children participate in this safe Halloween event. There is no charge to attend but tickets are required. They are being handed out at the Center Place Fine Arts & Civic Association on a first- come, first-served basis. For information, call 813-685-8888.

Historic Photos on Display at Center Place in October

More than 60 photos of Brandon and surrounding communities are on display throughout the month.

The communities of Brandon, Seffner, Valrico, Riverview and Lithia didn't simply spring up overnight. Remnants of 100-year-old structures can still be glimpsed between new subdivisions and shopping centers. Nevertheless, most of the historic buildings that marked the development of these East Hillsborough County communities have long been demolished. But, thanks to photo archives, residents can get a sense of the history of these pioneer communities. Throughout the month of October, residents are invited to view more than 60 historic photos of these communities form the 1890s through the 1960s at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Residents Invited to Make Holiday Cards for Troops

Center Place, in collaboration with the Community Roundtable, will hosts its fifth annual Holiday Cards for Troops Event Oct. 6.

It may seem like a small gesture. But to military service men and women stationed far from family and friends in the Middle East, something as simple as being able to send a holiday card can make a big impact. That's why, for the fifth year, Center Place, in collaboration with the Community Roundtable, will host its Holiday Cards for the Troops card-making event. On Saturday, Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, residents are invited to gather to create handmade holoiday cards. Residents age 16 and up will create decorated cards that are blank inside to send to deployed service members. The service members will be able to write a message to loved ones in the card. Bunco for the Arts Benefit Tonight, Sept. 20

Bunco lovers are invited to join the fun tonight, Sept. 20, when Center Place hosts its Beach Blanket Bunco for the Arts fundraiser starting at 6:30 p.m. at the cultural arts, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Bunco is a game of dice, luck, social interaction and prizes. No skill or experience is required. At the end of the evening, five prizes will be awarded to lucky players. In addition to an opportunity to enjoy bunco with friends, the event will include drinks, Cuban sandwiches, deviled crab and 7th Avenue Salad from La Septima Cafe along with a 50/50 raffle. Stages Productions Announces 25th Anniversary Lineup at Center Place

The theater group is celebrating its 25th anniversary of entertaining children at the Brandon nonprofit cultural arts center.

Stages Productions, a Tampa Bay-based professional theater ensemble that specializes in bringing classic fairy tales to life, will present its 25th anniversary season at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon. Since 1988, the ensemble has been performing throughout the Southeast,  from tiny school media centers to huge performing arts centers. All plays are one hour or less, have an energetic cast of four to eight actors, always include music, and usually include audience participation. It's Labor Day weekend and there are a multitude of ways to bid farewell to the summer. Here's a few of our suggestions for things to do this Labor Day weekend: 1. Chalk Walk, Artfest, Bunco, Dinner-Theater Planned at Center Place

Residents invited to gather "For the Love of Arts."

News Report Artists and art lovers of all ages are invited to Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Dr., Brandon, Saturday, Sept. 1 for the annual "For the Love of Arts" Chalk Walk along with a "Celebration of the Arts" art show. The Chalk Walk will kick off at 10 a.m. during which children age 3 and up are invited to create masterpieces in chalk on the sidewalks surrounding Center Place. The Chalk Walk is free but tickets are required and can be obtained at Center Place. Each young artist will receive will receive a box of chalk, a sidewalk section, coupons and freebies from local businesses.
