San Jose Home Makers Distribute Gifts to Migrant Children

More than 300 children received toys, books and stuffed animals.

In their world, there's no debating whether to get the X-Box or the Playstation. These children feel lucky to receive something as simple as a book or a stuffed animal for Christmas. "If it wasn't for this, they'd probably have no gifts to open on Christmas morning," said Jose Tamez, the maintenance supervisor for the San Jose Mission, a housing complex on Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard in Dover for migrant farmworkers operated by Catholic Charities. Tamez was referring to the efforts of the San Jose Home Makers, a ministry of St. Stephen Catholic Church in Valrico, which provides furnishings to migrant farmworkers in Eastern Hillsborough County to help them establish permanent households.
