River Hills Resident is Brandon's New Honorary Mayor

It was a close race but Cami Gibertini raised the most money for charity during her monthlong campaign.

River Hills resident Cami Gibertini has been named the newest honorary mayor of Brandon after an accounting of receipts was taken at the law offices of B. Lee Elam. The two candidates — Gibertini and Barbara Schwabe — collectively raised almost $72,000 in the one-month campaign that kicked off June 1 and officially ended this morning. “The economy’s not booming along and to raise $72,000 in a matter of a month is a great accomplishment,” said Sam Creaseman, president of the Community Roundtable, which runs both the honorary mayor’s race and the parade itself. “Both of these women worked very hard and had a great deal of support." “It was fun,” said Barbara Schwabe of Valrico, who ran a close race on behalf of the Center Place Fine Arts & …

Gibertini Hosts Charity Race Fundraiser at Campo Family YMCA

Participants took part in a combat training class and received a T-shirt for a $20 donation to Cami Gibertini’s campaign for honorary mayor of Brandon.

Cami Gibertini’s campaign for honorary mayor of Brandon got a kick start Saturday, June 18, at the Campo Family YMCA, 3414 Culbreath Road, with “Cami’s Combat Challenge.” Participants took part in a combat training class and received a T-shirt for a $20 donation to Gibertini’s campaign. So how did she come up with the unique fundraising idea? “It’s one of the classes that I take every week at the Y and, when I decided to run for honorary mayor, I decided to incorporate some of the things that I like to do into the race,” Gibertini said. “Fitness is a big part of my life and a lot of people who take the class are supporting me so it should be fun.” While she would love to ride in Brandon’s July 4th parade as mayor, Gibertini said the race …

With several events behind them, candidates for honorary mayor of Brandon Cami Gibertini and Barbara Schwabe are looking forward to two more weeks of fundraising for their chosen causes. Valrico resident Schwabe, current president of Center Place and vice president of Fred Schwabe & Associates, and River Hills resident Gibertini, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon and senior vice president of USAmeribank on Kings Avenue, are battling it out for the honorary post that dates back to 1959. The Brandon honorary mayor's race kicks off today. Both candidates have fundraisers planned.

1. Today is the kickoff for the race to become honorary mayor of Brandon. Candidates Cami Gibertini and Barbara Schwabe, both from Valrico, have fundraisers planned throughout the month to benefit their selected charities. Valrico resident Barbara Schwabe, current president of Center Place and vice president of Fred Schwabe & Associates, and River Hills resident Cami Gibertini, a member of the Kiwanis Club of Greater Brandon and senior vice president of USAmeribank on Kings Avenue, will battle it out for the honorary post.
