In the first scholarship signing of the school year, Bloomingdale High School senior signed to play at FIU.
The baseball season hasn't even started, but one Bloomingdale High School player is already batting 1,000. Surrounded by family, teammates, his coaches and Bloomingdale High School Principal Mark West, Cody Crouse signed a baseball scholarship to attend Florida International University in Miami. The Bulls pitcher called it a dream come true. "I've dreamed of this ever since I was a little kid," said Crouse who hopes to one day play professionally. After looking into a number of college programs, he said FIU was his first pick and was thrilled to receive the scholarship offer. The Panthers, currently in the Sun Belt Conference, will join Conference USA in July 2013. Under head coach Turtle Thomas, the Panthers won an impressive 40 games …

Bloomingdale will travel to face Freedom in a nondistrict match-up tonight at 7pm.
After coming off of a heart-breaking 11-2 loss to district opponent Alonso, the Bulls look to bounce back as they play the Patriots tonight in Tampa. Since losing to Durant in late March, Bloomingdale (12-9-0, 4-4-0, tie third place 6A District 8) had not suffered a loss by such a large deficit. Prior to their loss, the Bulls had won two straight games against Brandon and Leto. Overall the Bulls are 4-3 when traveling. They bring a team BA of .295, 13 HR's and 43 stolen bases into tonight's game. Defensively, Bloomingdale has a .938 fielding percentage for the season. The pitching staff currently maintains an ERA of 3.77 and allows opposing teams a .253 BA. Freedom (9-9-0, 5-6-0, fifth place, 5A District 8) won their first game in their …

Bloomingdale falls behind in the 6A District 8 race with a loss to Alonso on Friday night.
Bloomingdale took an early lead in Tampa on Friday night; only to surrender 11 runs in a loss to Alonso, 11-2. Opening a decisive district game by scoring two runs in the first inning would be an early indication of any team's desire to participate in post-season play. For Bloomingdale, (12-9-0, 4-4-0, tied third place 6A District 8), the first inning was the only inning a runner would advance across home plate as Alonso's (14-4-0, 6-2-0, first place 6A Division 8) Jose Fernandez collected himself and blanked the Bulls for six straight innings. Richie Martin, Jeff Griffith and Brycen Gladbach aided the Bulls' offense and notched the only hits in a game that was dominated by Ravens pitching and set askew by untimely Bloomingdale fielding …

Bloomingdale travels to Tampa tonight to face a tough Alonso team and a shot at a post-season spot.
Bloomingdale has started the month of April on a hot streak, winning against Leto and Brandon, moving them closer to the post-season. Bloomingdale (12-8-0, second place (tie), 6A District 8) travels to Alonso (13-4-0, first place, 6A District 8) with their eyes on the top spot, which the Ravens hold by one game. With three games left versus Freedom, Armwood and Newsome, Bloomingdale may need a sweep of all three teams to stay in post-season contention. The Bulls (4-2 in away games) will face a tough Alonso (6-1 at home) team. The Ravens best the Bulls in every offensive and defensive category coming into tonight's game. Offensively, Bloomingdale (team .303 BA) is led by: Nolan Schrenker; .358 BA, 9 RBI, 22 Runs, 15 SB, 53 AB Conor Malloy…

Durant comes back after being down, 6-0, to beat the Bulls, 10-6 on Tuesday.
After locking down four wins in a row, the Bulls lose two straight after a heartbreaking loss to Durant on Tuesday night, 10-6. In the previous four game win streak, Bloomingdale (9-7-0, 3-2-0, second place 6A Division 8) outscored opposing teams, 35-12. In Tuesday's loss to Durant (10-3-0, 5-3-0, second place 5A District 8), the bats of Bloomingdale were impressive, but the arms of their young pitchers eventually wore down, giving up a promising lead to one of the county's toughest teams. Bloomingdale, behind the 4 RBI of sophomore infielder Garret Lorenzo and the hitting of Nolan Schrenker and Conor Malloy could not contain a six- run lead after four shut-out innings of baseball. The Durant pitching staff was inefficient and shaky at …

The Bloomingdale Bulls will host Durant on Tuesday night at 7 p.m.
After winning four straight, the Bulls dropped a tough home game to Riverview on Saturday, 8-6. Bloomingdale (9-6-0, 3-2-0, third place, 6A Division 8) has won four of its last five games in a tough stretch of four games in two days that tested the young Bulls. Bloomingdale has outscored its opponents 42-17 in those games. Durant (9-4-0, 5-3-0, third place, 5A Division 8) will visit Bloomingdale on Tuesday after a tough loss to Jefferson on Friday night, 10-1. Prior to Durant's nonconference loss, the Cougars had won two straight against Armwood (4-2) and East Bay (4-1). Durant has a steady lineup that is led by sophomore Tyler Danish. In 33 at bats, Danish has a .606 BA that includes 10 doubles and 14 RBI. Together the Cougars bring a …

Bloomingdale traveled to Tampa on Tuesday with an eye on the district as they shutout Wharton, 6-0.
Wharton quickly found themselves in unfamiliar territory on Tuesday. With pinpoint pitching, solid defense and timely batting, Bloomingdale shut-out the Wildcats, 6-0. In its previous games, Wharton's pitching and batting found them baseball favor. Someone obviously forgot to pass that information along to the Bulls on Tuesday night as they combined to pitch a two hit shut-out and took advantage of Wildcat pitching to total 13 hits on 32 at bats. Bulls ace Robby Kalaf, coming off of a beautiful 112 pitch performance against Alonso on Friday, continued his magic on the mound against the best Wharton had to offer. Kalaf threw 74 pitches in five innings, striking out six and allowed only 2 hits and no earned runs. In recent games, it was the …
