Officials Contain Brush Fire on Lithia-Pinecrest

The fire scorched 11 acres but was brought under control before it could do further damage.

UPDATE, 2:25 p.m. A fire in the area of 7242 Lithia Pinecrest Rd. has been brought under control after burning roughly 11 acres on Monday, April 1. It took first responders about three hours to contain the blaze, with crews from Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and the Florida Forestry responding to the brush fire. Firefighters' aggressive response kept the blaze from spreading to 200 acres of nearby land. The Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office used a helicopterto fight the blaze. I-75 Reopens Following Ruskin Brushfire

The interstate was shut down in southern Hillsborough County and northern Manatee County on Saturday afternoon because of a Ruskin brushfire.

Updated, 8:37 p.m.: Interstate 75 has reopened in both directions following Saturday's brushfire in Ruskin, TBO.com reports. Earlier: The northbound lanes of Interstate 75 in southern Hillsborough County and northern Manatee County were shut down to traffic Saturday afternoon because of a large brush fire affecting about 30 acres in Ruskin. The Florida Highway Patrol advised motorists to proceed with caution and to seek alternate routes such as U.S. 301 and U.S. 41. All north and southbound lanes had been closed earlier in the afternoon between exit 240 in Ruskin and exit 229 in Parrish. Firefighters Battle Brush Fire in FishHawk Ranch

Hillsborough County is on the scene of a brush fire at 5720 Osprey Ridge Dr.

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue is on the scene of a brush fire at 5720 Osprey Ridge Dr., Lithia, in FishHawk Ranch. Firefighters responded at about 2:45 p.m. Friday, March 29, to discover several hot spots they are now working to control. Residents, describing the fire as "huge," are reporting that the fire is located near the skate park on Osprey Ridge Drive and that the Hillsborough County Sheriff's Office has closed Osprey Ridge in front of Bevis Elementary School. Fire Rescue says they have evacuated the students at the FishHawk Early Learning Center at Bevis. Officials say the fire is threatening some homes but some homes in Meadowpark were evacuated. Fire Near FishHawk Grows to About 75 Acres

Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel are working to contain the brush fire near Lithia Pinecrest Road and Browning Road, Bay News 9 reports.

Update, 4:48 p.m.: A brush fire in Lithia has grown to an estimated 75 acres, officials told Bay News 9. The fire is located in a wooded area to the east of FishHawk Ranch and is moving southeast, the station reports. Authorities said no homes are in danger. Earlier: Firefighters are on the scene of a 20-acre brush fire near Lithia Pinecrest Road and Browning Road, Bay News 9 reports. Hillsborough County Fire Rescue personnel are "trying to get ahead of the fire," which is in a wooded area and moving southeast, the station reports. "Crews are waiting for Florida Division of Forestry officials to arrive to help gain access," Bay News 9 reports. Officials told the station there are no homes in danger.
