Attendees are encouraged to dress in styles from the '60s and '70s for the spring fundraiser April 6.
Swing into spring April 6 with the GFWC Brandon Service League annual spring fundraiser April 6 featuring a barbecue dinner, dancing and a live auction. The fundraiser will take place from 6 to 10 p.m. at the Fraternal Order of Police Hall, 9001 Taylor Rd. in Seffner. With a '60s and '70s theme, attendees are encouraged to dress in their favorite style from that era. Those attending will have a chance to big on some great live auction items with special guest auctioneers Steve Otto and B. Lee Elam. News Report Martin’s Jewelers of Brandon recently signed on as a sponsor of the 20th Annual Holiday Home Tour presented by the GFWC Brandon Service League. Martin’s Jewelers has been a sponsor for the Holiday Home Tour previously. “We feel it’s important to show support for our community, and the annual GFWC Brandon Service League's Holiday Home Tour is a great way to do that. Not only does the tour raise money for area charities, but it’s also a lot of fun” said Brenda Martin of Martin’s Jewelers. The Martin family has owned and operated the Brandon area jewelry store for more than 58 years. The GFWC Brandon Service League began the Holiday Home Tour in 1993 with one home. News Report The Brandon Service League was presented with a $5,000 donation to benefit the club’s general scholarship fund. The donation came from Brandon attorney Lee Elam as part of his fundraising efforts during honorary mayor of Brandon race. Elam was one of two candidates who raised money through fundraisers throughout the month of June in the hopes of becoming the community's 2012-13 honorary mayor. Elam presented the check to club treasurer Zana Turner and Sandy Pulinger, a Brandon Service League past president, at the July meeting of the Community Roundtable. News Report Brandon Service League members concluded another successful year as a leading service organization in the community, raising more than $13,000 for local charities. Funds went to A Kid’s Place, Emergency Care Help Organization and the Alice Storms Very Special Arts Festival, along with several other local charities. News Report The Brandon Service League has awarded its annual Reynolds Bryan Scholarship to local high school graduate Lindsay Cohn. The scholarship is awarded yearly to an area high school senior planning to pursue an arts specific major. The scholarship was created in 1996 in memory of Reynolds Bryan, husband of Claire Bryan, a past president of the Brandon Service League, for the many years he dedicated to the success of the BSL Country Jamboree. Lindsay Cohn was presented with the scholarship at a recent Service League meeting. Lindsay and her mother also enjoyed a fun-filled evening that included a recycled gift exchange sponsored by the league's conservation committee.
