The Brandon Idol contest, first launched as a fundraiser for the honorary mayor of Brandon charity race, returned Sept. 29 to crown the event's 12th annual top adult singer.
The ongoing popularity of the Brandon Idol contest was apparent Sept. 29 at the Brandon Elks Lodge, where packed crowds witnessed both the Brandon Idol Teen contest in the afternoon and the adult contest at night. Among the attendees, and organizers, was George Sorensen, executive director of the Brandon Family YMCA, the event’s benefiting charity for the past two years. Extra sweet this year was the judges’ call to give the first-place award to Marc Williams, 27, who said he read about the contest online and spent his childhood at the Brandon YMCA. Eat at one of three Greater Brandon restaurants today, Sept. 29, and get a discount on admission for the Brandon Idol contest at the Brandon Elks Lodge. A Brandon Teen Idol will be held earlier in the day. Proceeds benefit the Brandon Family YMCA.
Today's the day Brandon will name its latest idol victors, with youth and adult contests set to get under way Sept. 29 at 1 p.m. and 7 p.m., respectively, at the Brandon Elks Lodge. According to organizer Dave Loebig, attendees can get discounted tickets for the adult show by mentioning the contest and purchasing any item to eat or drink at one of three restaurants in the Greater Brandon area: The discount for the adult show brings the cost down to $15. Cost to attend Brandon Idol is $25 (which is $5 less than last year's event). To attend Brandon Idol Teen, the cost is $15 for adults and $5 for children under age 18.
