Bloomingdale High Baseball Player Earns MVP Honors

Shortstop Richie Martin, who is eyeing a future in pro baseball, was named MVP in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association all-star game last weekend, the Tampa Bay Times reports.

Bloomingdale High baseball player Richie Martin was named MVP in the Florida Athletic Coaches Association all-star game in Sebring on Sunday, the Tampa Bay Times reports in its Home Team blog. Martin, a shortstop, went 4-for-5 with a triple and three stolen bases for the winning West squad over two games, the Times reports. Ranked the 20th-best senior prospect in Florida by scouting service Perfect Game, Martin hit .438 with 19 RBIs and 21 steals for the Bulls this year, according to the Times. He could be drafted in the Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft this June or opt to play collegiately at the University of Florida. Bloomingdale High Baseball Goes For Saladino Tournament Title Tonight

The Bulls meet Jefferson High at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, in the finals at Brandon High School.

The Bloomingdale High baseball team has its sights set on the Saladino Tournament championship. The Bulls meet Jefferson High at 7 p.m. Friday, March 16, at Brandon High in the finals of the 32nd annual tournament, which brings together some of Hillsborough County's best teams. Bloomingdale beat Wharton 8-4 on Thursday night in the semifinals, TBO.com reports, and has a chance to win its first Saladino title since 1995.
