Tonight, friends and family will gathere to remember a 13-year-old girl who loved art, animals and wanted to travel the world helping others. A celebration of Andrea Bower's life will take place today at 7 p.m. at Serenity Meadows Funeral Home, 6919 Providence Rd. in Riverview. Bower, a student at Guinta Middle School in Riverview, was killed Nov. 16 while attempting to cross Bloomingdale Avenue to board the school bus at Las Brisas Drive at about 8:30 a.m. Family members describe Bower, nicknamed "Peachie," as a kind, compassionate, free-spirited youngster who wanted to someday travel the world, working for charities and exploring new cultures. A fund has been established in memory of Andrea Bower, 13, the Giunta Middle School student who died Nov. 16 from injuries sustained in a pedestrian traffic crash on Bloomingdale Avenue. Donations are being accepted online and in person at the Copper Bell Cafe - Riverview, where the girl's mother, Katharine Bower, has been employed for about six weeks. Two teenagers and three women arrived at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Las Brisas Drive on Nov. 17 carrying balloons, a sign, a stuffed animal and a head covering that Andrea Bower had always thought was cool. All in all, small signs of a great love and a tragic loss that family and friends are struggling to endure and a community at large is attempting to understand. “It’s a horrible tragedy,” said Lisa Kearney, whose family knew Bower and her family. “No one should have to go through this. On the sign, family, friends and community members are stopping to put words to paper in memory of the 13-year-old, an eighth-grader at Giunta Middle School, who died from injuries suffered in a traffic crash on Bloomingdale Avenue, near Las Brisas Drive. Andrea Bower was struck Nov. 16 by a Ford sports-utility vehicle as she attempted to cross the lanes of Bloomingdale Avenue to catch the bus to school there.
