Accident Backs Up Traffic on Lithia-Pinecrest South of Bloomingdale

Drivers should stay clear of the area if possible

A crash involving a car and motorcycle in front of Panera Bread on Lithia-Pinecrest Road has traffic backed up in both directions. Sheriff's deputies are on the scene now, routing traffic into the Shoppes of Lithia and around the accident. No other details are available at this time.

Mourners Pay Tribute to Andrea Bower at Roadside Memorial

At Las Brisas Drive and Bloomingdale Avenue in Riverview, a roadside memorial has been growing in tribute to the life of Andrea Bower, 13, who died from injuries sustained in a traffic crash there Nov. 16.

  Two teenagers and three women arrived at the corner of Bloomingdale Avenue and Las Brisas Drive on Nov. 17 carrying balloons, a sign, a stuffed animal and a head covering that Andrea Bower had always thought was cool. All in all, small signs of a great love and a tragic loss that family and friends are struggling to endure and a community at large is attempting to understand. “It’s a horrible tragedy,” said Lisa Kearney, whose family knew Bower and her family. “No one should have to go through this. And no child should have to feel this pain.” Bower, 13, a student at Giunta Middle School in Riverview, was struck Nov. 16 by a Ford sports utility vehicle driven by a Riverview woman with two young children in tow. Pedestrian Killed on Gibsonton Drive

The accident at Gibsonton Drive and U.S. 41 is under investigation.

Hillsborough deputies are investigating a pedestrian fatality that occurred at the intersection of Gibsonton Drive and U.S. 41 at approximately 6:18 a.m. Aug. 2. Chad Everett Fortney, 30, of 7506 Gibsonton Dr., Gibsonton, attempted to cross Gibsonton Drive going southbound. Mark Andrew Calvo, 44, of 8611 Valrie Ln., Riverview, was driving his 1991 Ford pickup truck westbound and struck Fortney. There is no traffic light or pedestrian crosswalk in the area.

Funeral Services Scheduled for Riverview Resident Killed in U.S. 301 Accident

A memorial service for William Cole Boyd will take place June 30.

Funeral services for a young Riverview father killed in a car accident on U.S. 301 last week will be held Saturday, June 30. William Cole Boyd, 26, was killed Saturday, June 23, when he lost control of his 2011 Dodge Caliber on U.S. 301 in Wimauma, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. Boyd's car went into the northbound lanes at Ayeresworth Glen Boulevard, hitting a 2008 Toyota Corolla driven by 44-year-old Ana Simon, also of Riverview. Both were airlifted to Tampa General Hospital, where they later died. According to Serenity Meadows Funeral Home in Riverview, Boyd was born in Brandon and worked since 2004 at Mosaic Inc., where he just completed the Journeyman Millwright Mechanics program. Charges Upgraded in Bloomingdale Fatal Accident

A 5-year-old Riverview girl was killed in the crash.

The Florida Highway Patrol announced that it has upgraded charges against a Tampa man involved in a crash that killed a 5-year-old girl at the intersection of Bloomingdale Avenue and U.S. 301. According to a highway patrol report, Rolando Rojas, 52, is now charged with driving under the influence manslaughter, reckless driving involving serious injury, four counts of DUI involving property damage and DUI. The original charges against him following the accident Friday were vehicular homicide and DUI with serious bodily injury. Five-year-old Lilly Mills of Riverview died from injuries sustained in the accident. What a shame. Why is alcohol legal? It has caused so many injuries and deaths not only in auto accidents. Many deaths are from alcohol abuse and domestic disputes. It causes irrational behavior . Families have been destroyed due to alcohol. What else do they need to ban alcohol .
