<p>Station 7 at 119 W. Bloomingdale Ave., Brandon, is among 41 fire stations and two stand-alone rescue stations located throughout Hillsborough County and employing 816 career uniformed fire and rescue personnel. There also are 175 volunteer personnel in the county.</p>
<p>Started as an all-volunteer fire department in the 1950s, Hillsborough County Fire Rescue hired its first full-time firefighters in 1973. It is now one of the largest departments in the state, boasting 893 career uniformed and support personnel.</p> <p>In 1997, fire rescue and emergency medical services merged. Since then, paramedics have been placed on each career, front-line apparatus including 25 rescue trucks, 30 engine trucks, four ladder trucks and two special operations units. Nearly 85 percent of the department's more than 80,000 emergency responses annually require some level of medical care.</p>
