Riverview Chamber Seeks Candidates of 2013 Honorary Mayor's Race

A kickoff party is planned for July 20.

It's a race in which everyone is a winner.

That's because the Riverview honorary mayor's race, sponsored by the is all about raising money for local charities.

The race for the 2013 honorary mayor of Riverview kicks off Friday, July 20 at 6:30 p.m. with a party at 11238 Boyette Rd., Riverview. And 2012 mayor Lisa Kennedy took a few minutes at the chamber's monthly meeting June 26 to urge chamber members to consider running for the honorary post.

"I was only in the chamber for a year," said Kennedy of "It was so much fun. And the fun you have far outweighs the time and energy you put into it. And even if you're a runner up, your charity still wins."

Kennedy said the chamber is looking for two or three candidates for this year's race.

During the annual race, a candidate chooses a charity and then hosts a series of fundraisers for the charity Events range from 

Events can include such activities as raffles, dance parties, casino nights and wine tastings.

The candidate who raised the most money by Sept. 15 is declared the winner.

The winner then presides at various community events and ribbon-cutting ceremonies.
