5 Things to Know Today, Sept. 6

Here's some things you might want to do today.

1. I Am Hope Cafe at First Baptist Church of Mango, 11619 Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Seffner, serves dinner to the homeless on Mondays, Tuesdays and Fridays from 6 to 7 p.m. Breakfast is served at the cafe from 9 to 10 a.m. Saturdays. The nonprofit is always looking for volunteers to help or make donations. Call Vince Ferraro, 813-689-7153.

2. Interested in exploring your artistic side? Artist Debra Bryant will offer a portrait and wildlife painting class open to all levels on Tuesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Center Place, 619 Vonderburg Drive, Brandon. Students will learn the basic techniques of portrait painting in the Renaissance method of the Old Masters. This ongoing class will cover graphing, drawing, creating a value monochrome under painting and full color application.  Individual students' style, tastes and rate of progress will be approached with flexibility.  The cost is $48 for members, $58 for nonmembers per month on months with three weeks and $60 for members, $70 for nonmembers on months with four weeks.

3. Delightful Sounds for Toddlers will be offered Tuesday, Sept. 6 at 10:30 a.m. for ages 2 and 3 and 11:15 a.m. for ages 3 to 5 at the Bloomingdale Regional Library, 1906 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico.

5. The South Shore Young Professionals Association will host an after-hours event for casual networking Tuesday, Sept. 6 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. at Joia Fabulous Pizza and Martini Bar, 10475 Gibsonton Drive, Riverview. The event is free for members, $5 for guests.
