Newsome vs. Jesuit: Wolves Fall Short

Jesuit, on the road, seals a win over Newsome.

The Newsome Wolves came up short with a loss to the Jesuit Tigers.

"Jesuit came back from down 21-7 at halftime for a 28-21 win over Newsome," according to a Tampa Bay Times Home Team report on game coverage. "The winning score came on a double pass with three minutes left as Trent Wessell hit Kevin Newman."

Next up for the Wolves (3-2) are home games against Wharton (Oct. 4), Durant (Oct. 11) and Riverview (Nov. 1). Newsome hits the road for games against Plant (Oct. 18) and Bloomingdale (Oct. 25).

Will Newsome High School win its fourth season game tonight? That answer will be decided in Lithia, when the Wolves face the Jesuit Tigers at home. Game time is 7 p.m.

The face the Tigers, who are 0-0 in district play and 1-3 overall. Jefferson's national rank is 3,528; its state rank, 202, according to MaxPreps.com.

The Wolves (1-0 in league play and 3-1 overall) are ranked 661 in the nation and 53 in the state, according to MaxPreps.com. Newsome this season has scored 126 points, giving up 52. The team's victories have been over Tampa Bay Tech (23-12), Gaither (38-7) and Alonso (38-26). The team's sole loss was to Sickles (27-7).

As for their opponent, the Tigers in four games have scored 58 points, giving up 77. Jefferson's losses have been to Hardee (28-10), Clearwater Central Catholic (21-3) and Largo (21-14). The team's sole win was against Lakewood Ranch (31-7).
