Lady Wolves Seeking Place Among District 7 Elite

The 2010-11 volleyball season was surely a sign of things to come for the Lady Wolves.

After beginning last season 1-5, the Lady Wolves (8-7-0, fourth place in Class 5A-District 8) showed significant signs of progress in the second half of the season, winning seven of their last nine matches, including an impressive victory against district runner-up Durant.

With the loss of one lone senior, opposite hitter Jonni Raga (126 attack kills, 148 digs, 23 aces), the underclassmen for Newsome — including sophomore Hannah Zellmer (69 attack kills), freshman outside hitter Madison Whiting (67 attack kills, seven aces) and junior setter Caitlyn Blair (53 attack kills, 31 aces, 119 digs, 337 assists) — will lead the way for coach Kate Correa and the Lady Wolves in 2011-12.

The realignment of the new district (Class 8A-District 7), which now includes Class 6A state champions Plant and Class 5A regional qualifier Durant, will certainly test the young talented Newsome squad.
