Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center Hosts Tennis for Fun

The free program is for people with special needs.

Tennis for Fun is a free tennis clinic whose goal is to provide special needs athletes with an opportunity to have fun playing tennis, to learn basic skills and to provide one another with socialization.

Held at the Brandon Sports and Aquatic Center, 405 Beverly Blvd., in Brandon, it is run by volunteer Judy Moore, who has helped athletes go on to the Special Olympics.

The program was started in September 2000 by Moore's son, Nathan, then a Jesuit High School student, and has resided at BSAC ever since.

There are currently 40 athletes who participate on Friday afternoons.

Moore invites all special needs athletes to come out to the facility and try the program. Many of the parents of these athletes volunteer by helping demonstrate tennis skills and planning social activities.
