Bloomingdale Soccer Makes Dent In County Honors

Five Bloomingdale players pick up All-Hillsborough County soccer team honors.

Five Bloomingdale Bull soccer players earned the right to be named to the Hillsborough County All-Hillsborough team.

Bloomingdale, which won 15 games this season while making a deep run in the district playoffs before losing to Wharton, 3-1 in the district final, is well represented on the county list.

Leading the list and the only Bulls player to nab first team honors is senior Tevin Gage.

Gage was a heavily marked player that many defenses keyed on this season. Despite other teams efforts, the senior forward led the Bulls in 2010 with 26 goals and six assists with a combined total of 58 points for the year.

Making second team honors were senior defensemen Paul Snyder and junior goal keeper Austin Spagnola.

Snyder, became a ruthless defender in front of teammate Spagnola, giving him space and the defensive help that allowed him to shut out four teams this season. In addition to his defense, he added three goals and seven assists for a combined 13 points on offense.

Spagnola was monstrous at goal for the Bulls. He logged over 1,200 minutes between the posts in 2010. In those minutes he allowed only 17 goals with a 1.12 goals against average and shut out four teams in route to helping his team win 14 games.

Receiving honorable mentions were senior Sean Castanon, who scored 15 points, and junior Matt Firestine, who scored 12 goals, eight assists and 32 points in the teams 2010 campaign.

Only a handful of other Hillsborough soccer teams placed more players on the All-Hillsborough team than Bloomingdale. Among those teams were Newsome, Jesuit, Gaither and eventual state champions, Wharton.
