Bloomingdale's Campoamor Signs With Jacksonville University

Jacob Campoamor is the first Bulls football player to receive a scholarship this year.

Jacob Campoamor of Valrico couldn't have asked for a better way to end his high school career.

Just days before he was due to walk down the aisle to receive his diploma from , the senior, surrounded by family and friends, signed a football scholarship to attend Division I-AA Jacksonville University.

"It's exciting," said Campoamor, who played football all four years at Bloomingdale. "I talked to about 20 other schools but Jacksonville is really where I wanted to go. It's close to home and is a good school academically."

The 6-foot-1, 275-pound Campoamor was a two-year starter for the Bulls. He moved from offensive guard to offensive tackle as a senior and anticipates playing center at Jacksonville.

The son of Beth and Joe Campoamor Jr., Campoamor said the highlight of the season last fall was simply being on the field. "Now I'm ready to move on to college and play some more football," he said.

Bloomingdale Principal Mark West said Campoamor will be greatly missed on the football field as well as in the school where he not only excelled in academics but was active with the student government.

"We're just so proud of you," West told Campoamor. "It's such a great accomplishment."

When he arrived three years ago at Bloomingdale, Coach John Booth said Campoamor stood out "from Day 1."

"He had the attitude that he wanted to be the best and he worked incredibly hard to be successful," said Booth. "Jacob represents Bloomingdale pride at its finest. I'm really looking forward to seeing what the next four years has in store for him."

This was Booth's first scholarship signing since taking the helm as Bulls coach three years ago.

"It's definitely a special day for me," said Booth. "We're really excited for Jacob."
