Over 40? Try Yoga!

In this blog, yoga teacher Sharon Summerall talks about the benefits of yoga for the aging body.

Yoga is great for all ages but especially good for the aging body.

Here are just a few reasons why yoga is so good for everyone (but especially those of us who are over 40 or 50, 60 and 70 and beyond.)

1.  Stress Relief

4.  Helps you to be more flexible (physical and mentally.)

5.  Good for your bones (many yoga poses are weight bearing.)

6.  Improved Circulation.

7.  Helps to cultivate inner peace.

Most yoga classes end with a time for relaxation. This is usually 10 to 15 minutes if you go to a studio vs. a gym yoga class where the alloted time for relaxation might be just a minute or two.

I recommend trying several yoga teachers until you find the right fit for you. There are also different styles of yoga. Some examples of different styles are Kripalu, Iyengar and Ashtanga. Find the right teacher and style for you and your body.

If you are over 40, seek out a yoga teacher who specializes in yoga for your age group and be sure to inform the teacher before the class about any injuries, concerns, etc. that you might have.

Try yoga for the New Year. You will be glad that you did!
