Newsome Science Chair to Help Children Create Mousetrap Cars

Tech Playzone now accepting registrations for this summer.

TechPlayzone is now accepting online registrations for its science and technology summer camp with early registration discounts for families enrolling by April 30.  

 TechPlayzone provides campers age 6 to 13 interested in subjects such as computer programming, gaming, robotics, engineering and design the opportunity to study new ideas related to science, math and computer technology. 

A full-day camp is from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and costs $155 a week. A half-day camp is available from 9 a.m. to noon for $90 per week.

Each week of camp is themed and includes video game creation, digital movie making, Lego robotics and hands-on science experiments.  

Dr. Eric Peterson, science department chair of Newsome High School, will return to TechPlayzone this summer to help campers engineer mousetrap cars, dissect squid and explore the stars during astronomy week.

Lego lovers will enjoy building and programming with Lego Mindstorms  kits used by TechPlayzone's award-winning robotics teams. 

And finally, for the fourth year, Dr. Hugh Hickman, physics professor and author, will provide campers with object lessons regarding current science topics.  

 The public is invited to attend TechPlayzone's sixth anniversary celebration  May 21 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  The celebration will include Lego contests and video game creation contests.
