Newsome Percussion Ensemble Claims Top Prize in State Competition

Newsome High School competed against 10 other schools to win top honors.

In only its second year of existence, the Newsome High School Indoor Percussion Ensemble claimed the top prize in state competition.

On April 6, Newsome competed against 10 other Florida high schools, and won first place at the Florida Federation of Colorguards Circuit State Championships in Daytona Beach.

Throughout the season, the Newsome percussion ensemble placed in the top three during every competition and, in the end, won the state title.

This achievement could not have been realized without the dedication of the students, parents and staff of the ensemble, said director Ryan Marsh.

"This is a great accomplishment for these students and this ensemble," said Marsh, "The unwavering dedication and work ethic from everyone involved has really made this a special season"

The Newsome ensemble is comprised of 16 marching drum line/battery members and 17 front ensemble students.

This year's show, titled Reanimation, captures the crowd's attention with its robotic movements, techno-like rhythms and dubstep dance sequence combined with the illumination of green LED lights on the drums followed by lights on all the front ensemble instruments.
