Planning Financially for Retirement

According to the Congressional Budget Office, the approaching retirement of the baby-boomer generation has become a public concern, partly due to claims that boomers are not accumulating enough private savings to finance their retirement. The Hillsborough County Cooperative Extension Service and the Financial Planning Association of Tampa Bay have teamed up to help residents prepare financially for retirement through a series that will include classes and one-on-one sessions with volunteer financial planners.

The topics covered will include assessing participants' financial situations, sources of retirement income and building a retirement portfolio. The classes will be held Tuesdays, Feb. 8, 15 and 22, from 6 to 8 p.m., at the Hillsborough County Cooperative Extension Service, 5339 County Road 579 in Seffner. Registration is required by Jan. 31, and there is a $15 registration fee for the entire three-part series.

Registration is available online at http://retirementplanningseries02082011.eventbrite.com. For additional information, contact Lisa Leslie at (813) 744-5519, Ext. 143.
