Construction of New School Begins on Boyette Road

The campus will be home to a new middle school and a new high school.

As construction on the widening continues, drivers stuck in traffic may have noticed a very large building that seems to have sprung up out of the ground this week just west of Bell Shoals Road on the south side of Boyette Road.

The building is slated to become the Bell Creek Academy and Bell Creek Academy High School. The new charter middle school and high school are scheduled to open for the 2013-2014 school year. In the first year, the school will serve about 700 students in grades 6-10, according to Jenna Hodgens, Supervisor of Charter Schools for Hillsborough County. Each year, new grades will be added and the two schools will eventually serve grades 6-12 on the campus.

On the Bloomingdale-Riverview Patch Facebook page, residents weighed in with various reactions to the new schools.

"I love the fact a charter school is in my neighborhood," wrote Jessica Marie Cianfrocca. "The schools around here are less desirable. I will be making sure I enroll my child into this school."

John Rutherford is worried about the additional traffic the schools will bring to the area. "Traffic through this area is already terrible. 2 public schools around the corner, Valrico Academy, and then up the road to the west is St. Stephen Catholic School and Boyette Springs Elementary," he wrote. "This is not to even mention the neverending road construction project."

The school will be holding an informational session for parents of persprective students on Thursday, April 11 at 6 p.m. The meeting will take place across the street from the construction location at the Valrico Advantage Academy Cafeteria. The address for the meeting is 13306 Boyette Rd. in Riverview.
