Bloomingdale-Riverview Schools Name Top Teachers

Hillsborough County Teacher of the Year finalists will be announced Friday.

Who will get surprise visits this week at work, signifying their selection as finalists for the 2013 Teacher of the Year award in Hillsborough County?

According to Roselle Cronan, marketing manager for the Hillsborough Education Foundation, "surprise patrols" are set to visit schools Jan. 18 to announce this year's Teacher of the Year finalists.

In contention for the honor are:

  • Brittany M. Jones, a sixth-grade math teacher at Barrington Middle School
  • Judy Haney, a fifth-grade teacher at Bevis Elementary School
  • Anthony J. Pendino Jr., a math teacher at Bloomingdale High School
  • Kathy E. Mulvihill, a third-grade teacher at Alafia Elementary School
  • Ruth Garcia, a fourth-grade teacher at Boyette Springs Elementary School
  • Michael D. Williams, a seventh-grade science teacher at Burns Middle School
  • Elizabeth Sanchez, a fifth-grade teacher at Cimino Elementary School
  • Karen Wilson, a third-grade teacher at Collins Elementary School
  • Deirdre A. Justice, a social studies teacher at Durant High School
  • Jane Norsworth Farkas, a second-grade teacher at FishHawk Creek Elementary School
  • Jenna Osman, a fifth-grade teacher at Frost Elementary School
  • Trevor Harada, an eighth-grade math teacher at Giunta Middle School
  • Stacie Hall, a fourth-grade teacher at Lithia Springs Elementary School
  • Jonathan Watson, a social studies teacher at Mulrennan Middle School
  • Carole A. Pearce, a music specialist at Nelson Elementary School
  • Carolyn Ruth Nixon, an English teacher at Newsome High School
  • Arvie Hidalgo, an Exceptional Student Education teacher at Pinecrest Elementary School
  • Carolyn Stafford, a science teacher at Randall Middle School
  • Maggie Weaver, a kindergarten teacher at Riverview Elementary School
  • Hilton Barber, a driver's education teacher at Riverview High School
  • Jeanne Terry-Byrd, a reading teacher at Rodgers Middle School
  • Cassandra Mattison, an English teacher at Spoto High School
  • Tracy Scott, a kindergarten teacher at at Stowers Elementary School
  • Laura D. Lopez, a kindergarten teacher at Summerfield Elementary School
  • Nancy Russell, a second-grade teacher at Symmes Elementary School
