Bloomingdale High School's award-winning show choir, the “Ambassadors,” was one of only six choirs throughout the state invited to perform at the University of Florida Invitational Choral Festival.
The 28th annual invitational festival, highlighting the state's outstanding high school choirs, was held Oct. 25.
The choirs participated in a day of clinics, master classes, rehearsals and recitals. The day ended with a public performance featuring each choir alone and together with singers from the University Choir.
The Bloomingdale Ambassadors performed “Gloria” from Missa Kenya, which was composed by Dr. Paul Basler, a UF professor. They also performed “In Remembrance” by Jeffery Ames, accompanied by Dr. Basler on the French horn.
Additionally, the Ambassadors stayed an extra day for a private show choir workshop with Dr. Russell Robinson, professor of music and head of music education at UF.
Residents have two upcoming opportunities to see the Ambassadors perform locally.
The Ambassadors will perform in the Bloomingdale Music Department's Veterans Day Concert Nov. 8 at 7 p.m. in the Bloomingdale High School auditorium, 1700 Bloomingdale Ave., Valrico. Admission to the concert is free.
The Ambassadors also will perform in the Bloomingdale Chorus Winter Concert Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the auditorium. This concert is free as well.
The Bloomingdale Chorus Booster Club is currently accepting program advertising. To have an ad placed in any of the upcoming concert programs, contact Taya Fagan 813-393-9832 or email TayaFagan@verizon.net.
