The Line in the Sand

Let today be the day to draw a line in the sand and start new. Vow today to take your career, faith, and relationships to a new level.

What is that one thing that you wish you would start doing? Do you need to pay more attention to your spouse and children? Do you need to be healthier and start exercising? As we go through life, we tend to spend our days spinning in circles. We go on auto-pilot with our daily routine because that’s all we really have time to do. Life gets so busy that we focus on the things that must get done and neglect the things that should or could be done.

Can you put in a little bit of extra effort to change your habits and do the things that you should be doing? All it takes is to put a conscious effort into it for a few weeks and then the changes can become part of your daily circles. I will warn you – making this decision could change your life. If you make the decision to start this one thing and never turn back, then you will lead a much more blessed life.

The biggest difference between the ultra-successful people and the people who never get out of their own way is the way that they think. Successful people understand that they have to change and grow in order for success to come. They don’t expect it to magically appear on their doorstep in the middle of the night.

Career

Co-workers got you down? Counting down the hours until 5:00? Have passion for what you do. You may not like the job that you’re doing, but maybe there is something in the company that you would enjoy? Spend the next two weeks being passionate about your day-to-day responsibilities. Love your co-workers. Wish the best for them. Pray for them. Do your job excellently every day for two weeks and watch how it changes the landscape at work.

Faith

If you are a person of faith, how often are you spending time with God? I know that I struggle with this because all of my responsibilities - my kids, my wife, work, and on and on it goes. Can you spend just 10 minutes a day reading or listening to the Bible?

If you aren’t a person of faith, I challenge you to pick up a bible this week and open to the book of Proverbs. There are 31 chapters, so you can read one chapter every day in about 10 minutes. The wisdom in the book of Proverbs reads like a leadership book. In fact, some of that wisdom inspired Child-Like Leadership. If you don’t want to read all the “thee’s” and “thou’s”, pick up a free bible app that has the New Living Translation version. It reads like something you would find on in other books on the shelves today. Give it a try, Proverbs holds great wisdom that everyone should read.

Relationships

Is your family your priority? Have you gone out of your way to show your spouse and children how much you love them? This is an area that I think all professionals will struggle with. We can be so driven with work and business that we spend all our energy there. Sometimes the last thing we want to do after a long day’s work is to play dress-up with our kids or rub our wife’s feet. Yet, that’s exactly what we need to be doing. This is yet another area that I struggle with from time to time. I don’t take the trash out on time like I’m supposed to. I don’t treat my wife the same way that I did when we were dating. I need to put some extra effort into showing her how much I love her by breaking out of my daily routine and going out of my way to do something special. How about you?

It takes a little bit of extra effort to make some BIG changes in your life. Are you willing to put a line in the sand today and never look back? You could just be impacting your family for the rest of your life!
