Wider Bells Shoals Road Subject Of Tuesday Public Meeting

See what's planned for the heavily traveled Bell Shoals Road, from Boyette Road to Bloomingdale Avenue. The project is "in design," according to Hillsborough County spokesperson Steve Valdez.

A public meeting to discuss the upcoming expansion of Bell Shoals Road from Boyette Road to Bloomingdale Avenue has been set for Tuesday, Sept. 10 at Boyette Elementary School, according to Hillsborough County spokesperson Steve Valdez.

"The optimum would be to turn it into a four-lane divided highway," Valdez said in a telephone interview Aug. 23. "To turn it from two lanes into a four-lane divided highway with median."

So, that's possible, within the parameters of this project?

"That is the question, of what we can design to," Valdez said. "We're still in design. It is being developed in partnership with a private developer in the area."

The road work, he added, was part of the requirements for the development of FishHawk.

The meeting is set to being 6:30 p.m. Sept. 10 at Boyette Springs Elementary School in Riverview, at 10141Sedgebrook Drive.

Scheduled to be completed next year is the widening of Boyette Road, from McMullen Road to Bell Shoals Road. The project is to widen the area from two lanes to a four-lane divided highway, "with bike lanes and sidewalks on both sides, relocation of major utilities, drainage improvements, landscaped medians, mast arm traffic signals and signing and pavement markings," according to the Hillsborough County government website. Also included: reconstruction of the bridge over Bell Creek.
